Botvin Life Skills
Empowering Youth with Skills for Life

LeFlore County Youth Services proudly delivers Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST)—a nationally recognized, evidence-based prevention program proven to reduce substance use, violence, and other risky behaviors among youth. More than just a drug prevention curriculum, LST empowers students with the tools to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Program Overview
    • Setting: Offered in schools, afterschool programs, and youth                          serving environments
Duration: 6 to 8 weeks, with weekly sessions (45–60 minutes each)
    • Audience: Middle and high school students (grades 6–9)
    • Format: Interactive, age-appropriate lessons that promote                               engagement and skill-building

Core Life Skills Developed
    • Drug and alcohol resistance strategies
    • Effective communication and assertiveness
    • Stress and anxiety management
    • Self-esteem, goal-setting, and decision-making
    • Navigating peer pressure and everyday challenges

Measuring Impact
To ensure accountability and continuous improvement, LCYS administers pre- and post-tests that assess:

    • Knowledge of substance abuse risks
    • Attitudes toward risky behaviors
    • Growth in personal and social competencies

These evaluations help demonstrate program effectiveness and guide future enhancements.

Why It Works
Rather than focusing solely on the dangers of substance use, Botvin LST promotes healthy alternatives, personal resilience, and positive youth development. Students leave the program better equipped to make informed choices, manage emotions, and build strong relationships.
